Workwear Group (WWG) is proud to have played a part in another successful Melbourne Cup Carnival, providing the official uniform for Victorian Racing Club (VRC) staff, ensuring it wasn’t just racegoers who were dressed to impress.

VRC revealed new bespoke staff uniforms as part of the Club’s brand refresh, which coincided with the unveiling of a new world-class members’ stand.

Steve Cuiffini, General Manager – Direct at Workear Group said “working with VRC was a great opportunity to showcase our ability to design and deliver high-quality and stylish uniforms for large-scale events within a short turnaround.”

VRC Senior Manager, Membership Management, Kelly Richardson was particularly impressed with WWG’s professional and dedicated approach to the task.

“The effort and involvement in the process was terrific. The team at Workwear Group really pulled out all stops to make it happen,” Ms Richardson said.

“I had no idea of the complexity and countless moving pieces required to bring a uniform to life – let alone 16 different uniforms. I don’t know how we would have done it without the experience and depth of knowledge, talent and range of expertise at Workwear Group.”

The uniform requirement was extensive and varied covering over 850 regular and seasonal event staff across three unique uniform types, plus bespoke uniforms for 13 new restaurants and bars ranging from floor/wait staff, bar staff and managerial staff uniforms.

Form, functionality, performance and quality were priorities for WWG and VRC Executive General Manager Customer Engagement, Caroline Ralphsmith, said the custom range was designed with the Club’s vision in mind.

“With more than ten years having passed since the uniform was last updated, we felt that the current uniform no longer reflected the vision and brand personality of the VRC,” Ms Ralphsmith said. “The 2018 Melbourne Cup Carnival will see the Club’s renewed brand showcased across the racecourse, and staff uniforms are among the most visible representations of this brand.”

Some highlights of the new range include:

  • The Event Staff blazer, the hero of the new uniform ensemble, has been produced using fabrics especially engineered for the VRC by Workwear Group using sustainable production processes that use less water and emit less carbon dioxide than conventional methods

  • Event and Information Staff working outdoors will have the added benefit of a UPF 50 straw hat, the highest available rating for sun protective textiles, and a wet weather jacket designed to combat Melbourne’s fickle four-seasons-in-one-day weather

  • Bespoke uniforms have also been designed for every venue in The Club Stand, in order to reflect the diverse dining and entertainment experiences offered in each of the venue’s eight bars and five restaurants

With so much colour and activity during race days, the VRC uniforms needed to stand out while still respecting the heritage and tradition of the Club. WWG was up for the challenge producing unique looks that achieved this and more.
